IELTS
IELTS is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test conducted by IDP for higher education and migration. IELTS in India will only be conducted only by IDP not British Council anymore. There are two types of IELTS – IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Candidates can complete IELTS registration either online or offline mode. The total duration of IELTS is 2hrs 45 minutes. IELTS score is recognized in most universities of the English-speaking nations, including all the universities of the UK and Australia and around 3400 universities of the USA. IELTS exam pattern comprises Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. IELTS exam fee is INR. 14700. Candidates can take IELTS four times a month. Due to the pandemic, IELTS online test or IELTS indicator is available as per convenience.

Due to COVID 19 outbreak, IELTS IDP has arranged IELTS online test (IELTS Indicator) at home for academic test takers. IELTS indicator test is available in coronavirus-affected countries where test centers are closed following safety protocols. IELTS indicator also tests the four language skills of the candidate.
Why IELTS is Required?
IELTS is required for studying as well as working purposes in English-speaking nations like the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. IELTS is focused on evaluating practical communication ability. IELTS has become a leader in the domain of international higher education. UK visa applicants can only submit IELTS scores for UK Visa and Immigration purposes both inside and outside the UK. IELTS score is important for the universities as well as visa granting authorities to check strong command over English by the applicant. IELTS is not mandatory for admission requirements but applying for a student visa, IELTS score is important.
Which Test should I take?
There are two types of IELTS conducted for two purposes - IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The subject matter of Listening and Speaking is the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training but the Reading and Writing sections vary. Candidates take IELTS Academic test applying for higher education or professional registration purposes in an English-speaking nation. Most educational institutions accept IELTS academic scores. Candidates take IELTS General Training for migration or employment purposes to English-speaking nations like Australia, Canada, and the UK. This test format focuses on the individual skillset required to sustain in the workplace.
IELTS Eligibility
Candidates can take IELTS irrespective of age, nationality, or race. IELTS does not have any major Eligibility conditions. It is preferred that candidates must be above 16 years of age to appear for IELTS. Nationality proof is also required as eligibility criteria for IELTS. IELTS conducting body has not set any minimum IELTS eligibility criteria for educational qualification. Candidates should also check the eligibility criteria put up by the universities where they are applying. However, most educational institutes around the world require an IELTS total score of 7.0 band with section scores of 6.5 band as IELTS exam eligibility. Also, candidates can take IELTS as many times as they want to achieve the targeted score.
